Summary:

The Project Manager in the Ship Shore Power Retrofit field is responsible for managing end-to-end

projects focused on retrofitting ships to connect to shore power (cold ironing) while docked or during commercial sailing, reducing emissions and fuel consumption. This role involves overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of retrofit projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The Project Manager will coordinate with ship owners, port authorities, classification societies, contractors, and engineering teams to achieve successful project outcomes that comply with environmental and regulatory standards.

The Role:

1. Project Planning & Execution:

  • Develop comprehensive project plans, outlining scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation for ship shore power retrofit projects.
  • Define project deliverables, timelines, and key milestones in collaboration with clients, engineering, and port authority teams.
  • Conduct risk assessments and establish mitigation strategies to ensure smooth project execution.

Stakeholder Coordination & Communication:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for ship owners, port operators, contractors, and regulatory bodies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with stakeholders to provide status updates, address concerns and risks, and adjust project plans as needed.
  • Coordinate the activities of cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, marine engineers, procurement and service team, and contractors.

Technical Oversight:

  • Work with engineering teams to ensure that design and installation plans meet technical specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the installation of shore power equipment, ensuring that it integrates properly with ship systems and port infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations, Like IEC standards, MARPOL Annex VI and local emission control standards.

    udget & Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage project budgets, tracking costs against estimates and ensuring financial accountability throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Approve expenditures, monitor procurement of materials and equipment, and ensure cost efficiency without compromising on quality.
  • Prepare financial reports and forecasts for stakeholders, highlighting any potential budget overruns or cost-saving opportunities.

Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:

  • Ensure all aspects of the project adhere to international, national, and local maritime environmental regulations, including emissions standards and safety codes.
  • Manage all required documentation for project approval, including design reviews, permits, certifications, and compliance reports.
  • Ensure proper handover of technical documents and as-built drawings to shipowners or port authorities at the project's conclusion.

Team Leadership & Performance Management:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and subcontractors, providing direction and ensuring high-performance levels.
  • Monitor the performance of subcontractors, ensuring that timelines are met, and work is completed to specification.
  • Resolve conflicts or bottlenecks that may impact project delivery and quality.

Quality Assurance & Risk Management:

  • Implement quality assurance processes to ensure that all project deliverables meet the required technical standards.
  • Manage potential project risks, including technical challenges, supply chain delays, regulatory changes, and unforeseen environmental issues.
  • Conduct project reviews and post-project evaluations to identify lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.

. Client Engagement & Relationship Building:

  • Maintain strong relationships with clients and shipowners to understand their needs and ensure their satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Respond to client inquiries and address any changes or adjustments to project scope or timelines.
  • Build partnerships with key stakeholders, including port authorities and environmental agencies, to facilitate smooth project implementation.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in marine engineering, electrical engineering, project management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience managing projects in the maritime industry, specifically in ship retrofits or shore power projects.
  • Strong project management skills with experience in budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Familiarity with maritime regulations, ship systems, electrical power systems, and environmental compliance.
  • Experience with contracts and negotiating with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to lead and motivate cross-functional teams toward successful project completion.
  • Proactive and effective in identifying project challenges and implementing solutions.

Location: Open. This position can be based either in Malaysia or Singapore
