The QC Welding Inspector is responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of welding operations on offshore structures such as jackets and topsides. This includes inspection of welding activities at fabrication yards and offshore installations, ensuring compliance with project specifications, international codes, and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Conduct visual and mechanical inspections of welds on jackets, topsides, and structural components.
- Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and material compliance.
- Perform NDT methods such as VT, UT, MPI, and LPT as required.
- Ensure welding activities comply with AWS, ASME, ISO, and project-specific standards.
Monitor welding parameters and environmental conditions during offshore operations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, welding procedures, and test results.
- Prepare inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action plans.
Review and approve Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) and Quality Control Procedures.
Project Coordination
- Collaborate with engineers, welders, and project managers to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in pre-job meetings and provide input on welding-related matters.
Support the development and qualification of welding procedures and welder certifications.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols during inspection and welding activities.
Conduct safety audits and support HSE initiatives related to welding operations.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas for process improvement and contribute to quality enhancement initiatives.
- Stay updated with advancements in welding technology and offshore fabrication practices.
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Welding Technology.
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent (e.g., CSWIP, AWS).
- Minimum 8 years of experience in offshore fabrication and welding inspection.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, WPS/PQRs, and international codes.
- Familiarity with jackets and topside fabrication processes.
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
- Ability to work in offshore environments and fabrication yards.
- Knowledge of coating inspection and NDT techniques is a plus.
