Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management

  • Lead and inspire the boarding community whilst upholding school values and policies
  • Manage, train, and develop boarding staff to maximise their effectiveness
  • Conduct regular team meetings to ensure consistency across boarding houses
  • Establish and maintain clear boarding routines and procedures

Student Welfare & Pastoral Care

  • Build strong relationships with all boarding students through active presence in houses
  • Manage pastoral concerns alongside the Head of Secondary School
  • Handle disciplinary matters and maintain accurate student records
  • Oversee medical care coordination with relevant departments and parents
  • Ensure compliance with boarding regulations and inspection requirements

Community Development

  • Organise engaging activities, trips, and social events for the boarding community
  • Select and train Boarding Prefects across all houses
  • Gather regular feedback from students to enhance boarding experience
  • Represent boarding interests to senior leadership and contribute to strategic planning
  • Maintain and update the Boarding Handbook annually

Operations & Communication

  • Coordinate fire safety practices and maintain required records
  • Liaise with maintenance teams and administration on facility matters
  • Support boarding staff recruitment processes
  • Keep parents informed about boarding policies and their children's welfare

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on leadership approach with willingness to undertake weekend and overnight duties
  • Experience managing student groups (up to 100 students suitable)
  • Ability to take on additional teaching responsibilities, particularly EAL (English as an Additional Language)
  • Strong pastoral care and administrative capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strategic thinking and community leadership abilities
  • Experience in staff management and development
  • Commitment to creating a safe, caring, and organised boarding environment
