Byron Recruitment is seeking an experienced and dynamic Secondary Principal to join the Senior Leadership Team at a not-for-profit international school dedicated to fostering confident, open-minded global citizens through lifelong learning and a strong sense of community.

This role is for a leader committed to innovation, a student-centered approach, and community-driven education. The expected start date is August 1, 2026.


Key Responsibilities and Leadership Focus

The Secondary Principal will report to the Deputy Head of School and work closely with the Head of School, Primary Principal, and departmental coordinators.

Curriculum Leadership and Development

  • Lead the continuous improvement and review of International Baccalaureate (IB) programs.

  • Develop and articulate a shared vision and strategic development plan for the school curriculum.

  • Ensure curriculum documentation is maintained and available to all staff.

  • Work with coordinators to ensure subject teachers implement effective assessment practices.

Instructional Leadership & Staff Development

  • Conduct class observations for secondary teachers every academic year and carry out a professional growth program for each teacher every semester.

  • Promote and display high standards and expectations.

  • Work alongside coordinators to improve learning and teaching.

  • Oversee appropriate professional development plans for the improvement of IB programs.

Management & Communication

  • Attend regular senior leadership meetings, held every Friday, to report on recent work, discuss issues, and make important decisions.

  • Distribute agendas and minutes from management meetings to coordinators and the senior leadership team.

  • Oversee the placement of students into their correct year levels and guide teachers in improving academic performance.

  • Deal with severe or consistent student behavior issues.

  • Lead the strategic approach to timetabling and ensure curriculum productivity.

Safety Management

  • Be the main responsible person for the safety of the secondary school.

  • Lead safety education and child protection training for teachers and students on a regular basis.

  • Ensure teachers are trained on how to supervise students and develop a supportive homeroom teacher culture.

  • Fulfill safety responsibilities during recruitment, including a thorough reference check.

Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with the following qualifications and experience:

  • A Master's degree in educational leadership or curriculum.

  • An internationally recognized teaching qualification.

  • At least two years of leadership experience in a secondary school.

  • Understanding and commitment to the accreditation self-study process and action planning.

  • Familiarity with the philosophy of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP).

  • A commitment to restorative practices for educating student behavior.

  • Understanding of working in an EAL (English as an Additional Language) environment and the ability to lead differentiation of instruction.

  • A strong commitment to child protection.
