Job Description
The Senior Operations Advisor provides subject matter expertise across one or more key survey disciplines, acting as a peer leader, knowledge resource, coach, and overall survey process expert at the area or regional level. The Senior Operations Advisor will work closely with clients on operational and service delivery issues through ongoing industry relationships as well as business intelligence gained through service/operational interaction. Additionally, this role supports internal business development teams and processes as an operational advisory resource.
What You Will Do:
- Serves as survey operations Subject Matter Expert (SME) - supporting key survey disciplines in assigned area or region and acting as an operational coach/mentor to provide guidance and support for peers, managers, and colleagues requiring technical advice in the area of expertise.
- Executes and safely supports the Survey & Certification Core Process as peer leader/resource for assigned area or region.
- Acts as a professional specialist for the organization in the application of related rules, regulations, requirements, concepts, principles and processes.
- Assists in recommending short- and long-term manpower planning needs for qualified, trained survey staff based on the projected business.
- Supports and influences future ABS growth in the specific subject matter area as related to industry requirements and initiatives.
- Maintains awareness of changes and development in service delivery or technical issues affecting present and potential customers and communicates this information promptly to the appropriate leadership level.
- Represents ABS in key industry committee and events as an SME and industry resource.
What You Will Need:
Education and Experience
- Qualifications from a tertiary institution within a relevant field of engineering or physical science (minimum two (2) years program); or
- Qualifications from a marine or nautical institution and relevant seagoing experience as a certificated ship officer.
- Ten (10) years demonstrated experience at the Principal Surveyor level or higher
- Typically three (3) years' experience on international assignment or significant exposure to international projects, processes.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Demonstrated mastery and knowledge of ABS Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and instructions; as well as all company policy with specific emphasis on the ABS Employee Safety Policy.
- Demonstrated expertise in effectively executing surveys across the various disciplines.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and have an extensive understanding of marine and/or offshore shipbuilding and construction practices, engineering systems, structure, and vessel operations.
- Strong capability in building and maintaining professional relationships internally and externally to the Company.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills. Experience in public speaking in a technical engineering environment to support solutions to industry, ship owners and shipyards.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability with the skill to propose and convey solutions effectively.
- Working knowledge of business management systems, process and procedures.
- Demonstrated solution-oriented customer/client relations skills
- Knowledge of metrics based performance concepts and the ability to manage key performance indicators to meet business outcomes
- Working knowledge of the ABS Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental Management System.
