Summary

The Material Development Technologist is responsible for researching, developing, testing, and validating new polymer, silicone, wood and plastic, metal materials to support product performance, enhancement, innovation and sustainability goals. The role involves close collaboration with product development, merchandising, costing and quality teams to ensure material solutions meet cost, performance, and regulatory requirements.

What you'll d

oThe holder of the position is mainly responsible for the following areas in coordination with his / her superior

  • :Material Standardisation & Improvement: Drive standardization of current materials for performance consistency and improvement and establish a standard material librar
  • yNew Material Sourcing: Research and identify potential new materials (CMF) and suppliers globally, staying current with industry trends and innovations
  • .Alternative Solutions: Investigate and propose alternative material solutions for current products to improve performance, reduce cost, or enhance sustainability
  • .Technical Evaluation: Coordinate with QA for the technical evaluation and testing of new materials to ensure they meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • .Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary material expert, collaborating with product development, Merchandising, Sustainability and QA teams to support new product development and material transitions
  • .Documentation and Reporting: Maintain a comprehensive database of material specifications, supplier information, and testing results. Prepare detailed reports on material performance and cost analysis.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Engineering Technology or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of experience in a materials sourcing and development, supply chain, or R&D role, preferably within a relevant industry (e.g., consumer goods, electronics, tools, power tools).
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding, extrusion, and curing processes.
  • Proven experience in sourcing and evaluating new materials and suppliers.
  • Candidates with experience less experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of sustainable plastics, bio-based materials, or recycling processes
  • Strong knowledge of various material types and their properties (e.g., polymers, composites, metals, wood).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess material performance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in project management and a keen eye for detail.
  • Highly proactive and innovative mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A passion for sustainability and a desire to contribute to a greener supply chain.
  • Positive and energetic team player with strong cross-functional team experience.
  • Good command of spoken and written English.
