About The Role
As a Junior Contracts Counsel/Specialist within our Life & Health Reinsurance division, you will play a pivotal role in drafting, reviewing, and supporting the negotiation of traditional Life and Health reinsurance agreements. Working with both Swiss Re standard templates and external broker/third-party contract formats, you will help to ensure that our contractual arrangements are legally robust, commercially sound, and aligned with our strategic business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, interpret and support the negotiation of reinsurance contracts for Life & Health business across diverse Asian markets.
  • Collaborate closely with Client Management and other cross-functional teams to understand and address contractual and commercial requirements.
  • Evaluate client needs and develop contract solutions that balance commercial objectives with effective risk mitigation.
  • Apply guidance from senior Reinsurance Contracts Counsel to tailor contract language and strategies to specific deal contexts.
  • Effectively communicate Swiss Re's positions on contract wording matters to internal stakeholders, clients, and external partners.
  • Ensure consistency in Swiss Re's contract wording across all Life & Health lines of business.
  • Monitor emerging legal and market issues, proactively identifying and escalating potentially problematic clauses.
  • Adhere to internal governance and compliance standards throughout the contract lifecycle, leveraging relevant tools and systems.
  • Contribute to contract-related metrics, reporting, and ad hoc information requests.
  • Support training initiatives across the Asia region and assist with onboarding new team members.
  • Participate in regional and global projects, contributing contracts expertise to cross-functional initiatives and the development of new contract tools (including AI usage), systems and processes.
  • Ability to support work across various Asian time zones and flexibility to participate in evening calls where required.
  • Ability to meet Beijing office attendance requirements (subject to change)

About The Team
You'll be part of the Asia Life & Health (L&H) Contracts team—a specialised function, separate from Swiss Re's Corporate Legal & Compliance division. Our team focuses exclusively on reinsurance contracts for the L&H business across diverse markets across Asia. We work in close partnership with Client Management and other cross-functional teams to develop legally robust and commercially sound reinsurance contract frameworks that support Swiss Re's business and strategic objectives while effectively managing risk. This role reports to the Team Lead, Contracts L&H, based in Beijing. While our work is dynamic, fast-paced, and often complex, we place strong emphasis on maintaining a positive, supportive, and collaborative team environment.

We Are Looking For Candidates Who Meet These Requirements

  • Legal qualification with between 2 and 3 years relevant professional experience, with a focus on drafting and review of legal contracts.
  • Sound understanding of legal principles and practices relating to contract law.
  • Excellent written and spoken English language skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and comprehension skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal direction and handle multiple priorities across

different markets.

Highly Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in financial services or (re)insurance industry.
  • Experience with AI tools for contract analysis, review, as well as contract tool development.
  • Professional proficiency in Korean and/or Japanese, with a relevant proficiency certificate (e.g., TOPIK 4+, JLPT N2+) being a strong plus.
  • Multi-cultural communication experience in markets across Asia.
