As the Head of Compliance & Ethics– Greater China, you will report to the global General Counsel & Chief Legal Officer.
What you'll do
• Design, implement, and monitor compliance programs tailored to Greater China, including training, risk assessments, investigations, and corrective action plans etc.
• Develop and deliver region-specific training programs to educate employees, suppliers, and business partners on anti-corruption, trade sanctions, human rights, and Volvo Cars' Code of Conduct.
• Conduct effective compliance investigations into potential corruption and commercial bribery practices and implement corresponding follow-up management measures.
• Report regularly to the China Compliance Committee on major compliance risks and key compliance programs within the region.
• Conduct due diligence on business partners, suppliers, and third-party vendors to mitigate risks of corruption, sanctions violations, and human rights abuses.
• Partner with global and local teams to localize and implement global policies which are applicable to the region, ensuring cultural relevance and operational feasibility.
• Serve as the primary advisor on data governance and privacy regulations (e.g., China's PIPL, EU's GDPR and US' CCPA and Bulk Sensitive Data Rules), ensuring Volvo Cars' products and services as well as cross border data transfer programs comply with evolving legal requirements.
• Partner with legal, digital, engineering and product teams to embed privacy-by-design principles into connected vehicles, AD/ADAS, digital platforms, and AI-driven technologies.
• Oversee export control classifications, licensing, and embargo compliance to ensure alignment with Volvo Cars' global risk framework and local regulations.
• Oversee compliance with trade sanctions (e.g., U.S. OFAC, EU restrictions) and export control regimes for Greater China.
• Design and drive human rights compliance programs in Greater China, conduct impact assessments in the supply chain, addressing risks such as forced labor, modern slavery, and environmental harm in line with Volvo Cars' sustainability commitments and local regulations.
• Stay ahead of regulatory trends (e.g., ESG reporting, AI ethics) to future-proof Volvo Cars' compliance frameworks in Greater China.
What you'll bring
The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and collaborative with high integrity and a pragmatic approach. While the ability to develop and implement strategy is important, an ability to deliver timely and practical solutions our business colleagues is a priority.
• Over 15 years of professional experience with at least 8 years of experience driving compliance and ethics programs in a multinational organization.
• Sound understanding of applicable laws and regulations; bachelor degree in law is required and professional certifications (e.g., CCEP, IAPP) are a plus.
• Embody and demonstrate a high level of integrity and ability to build trust.
• Strong leadership and collaboration spirit, with the ability to work independently and to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams.
• Proactive and customer-oriented mindset, with the ability to deliver high-quality and practical solutions to complex challenges that require careful analysis and good judgement, often under time pressure.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to explain complex issues in a simple way to business partners, leadership, and other stakeholders.
• Very high level of business acumen and ability to operationalize compliance and ethics policies and anticipate/solve related challenges.
