The Role
Voice integration engineers within the vehicle software organization work side by side with various cross-functional teams to lead the design and development of voice interaction systems. This role utilizes hardware, software, and system design fundamentals to support product design, voice interaction behaviors definition, prototype bring-up, and validation, with a software focus. Voice integration engineers are responsible for overall functionality and performance of voice interaction systems throughout product life cycle. This role will be responsible for voice recognition, natural language processing, audio processing pipeline, voice commands, and other voice-related features in the vehicle.

Responsibilities

  • Distill vehicle product requirements into actionable software requirements for voice services
  • Lead software architecture design of voice interaction products and features
  • Define system hardware and software interfaces for voice processing systems
  • Bring-up and debug early software and hardware prototypes through characterizing the voice systems and ensuring systems perform to requirements
  • Support validation teams in developing component and system level test plans to meet voice interaction requirements
  • Understand and debug hardware and software interactions during design, launch, and deployment of voice features
  • Perform field data analytics to improve design and performance of the voice system
  • Analyze changes to assess impact to systems by summarizing impacted devices, interfaces and process in the hardware and software domain
  • Serve as a system leader to provide technical direction for hardware, software, manufacturing, and service teams
  • Help various cross-functional teams understand how their systems and related decisions impact voice interaction systems

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degrees in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or equivalent
  • Strong C++/Go comprehension
  • Comfortable with audio processing fundamentals
  • Excellent at hands-on debugging complex subsystems involving audio processing, microphones, and voice recognition systems
  • Comfortable analyzing data to improve design and performance of a voice system
  • Understanding of hardware and software development processes for audio applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have an exceptional capacity for managing simultaneous activities and challenges

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Linux audio technology stack (hardware, drivers, audio device management, ALSA)
  • Experience with digital audio processing pipelines and algorithms
  • Understanding of machine learning principles and applications in audio processing and natural language understanding including LLMs
  • Experience with voice interaction products (smart speakers, in-vehicle voice systems)
  • Fluent English communication skills
