THE ROLE
As a production Engineer of accessory Team in Tesla's Vehicle Engineering Group, you will be responsible for the Design/Release and launch of accessory components and systems for current M3 /MY/MS/MX and future Tesla vehicle product lines and also lead the part localization.
Commodities of particular importance include but not limited to floor mat, weather liner, cargo mat, sunshade, trunk liner, tow kit, and the integration of these commodities into the vehicle. You will utilize your expertise in one or more of these commodities and develop as a full vehicle engineer – designing and delivering systems rather than just components as you work with a lean and agile team of the best automotive engineers in the industry. You will report to the Engineering Manager of Cabin System.
Responsibilities
Along with Tesla's vehicle engineering team, you will release and launch accessory components and subsystems which are aligned with program product profile with responsibilities that include:
- Develop and execute accessory system requirements for one or more of the aforementioned accessory commodities.
- Achieve customer-driven accessory system targets for luxury, function, cost and weight.
- Participate in the iterative process with the Tesla design/styling studio to deliver the optimal balance of form vs. function vs. cost.
- Support in design optimization with the appropriate analytical and physical assessments.
- You will Utilize DFSS methodologies as appropriate during the design, validation and launch of current and new programs You will interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product design.
- Your will collaborate with cross functional teams within the Tesla Vehicle Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Procurement groups to ensure accessory system manufacturing and assembly feasibility and serviceability.
- You will be responsible for utilizing product engineering processes such as DFMEA and technical documentation - DVP&R and at times also Responsible for developing these documents.
- Follow up with suppliers regarding system/part level validation.
- Follow up on Jig/fixture creation/validation for accessory components.
- CATIA V5 Basic Skills.
- Analyze Field Reliability data of current programs to improve accessory Reliability through design/process/manufacturing changes.
- Interact and coordinate component/system Validation with Reliability Team and Testing group.
Requirements
- You must have a Bachelor or above degree in Mechanical Engineering/Automotive Engineering/Material Engineering… with a minimum of 4 years of experience in automotive component and subsystem engineering, demonstrating technical aptitude from concept through design, release and launch for production and 3D modeling proficiency in CATIA v5.
- You must understand the fundamental differences in design and engineering of premium luxury accessory trim and systems and have examples or a portfolio of completed programs.
- You should have in-depth technical expertise with the latest manufacturing technologies and feasibility execution to achieve systems requirements and world-class craftsmanship/ performance targets.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling utilizing CATIA V5 is essential (minimum of 5000 hours or 3 years) within an automotive product development environment. You should have a strong working knowledge of DFM and DFA, including familiarity with GD&T and dimensional controls.
