We are looking for a Head of Lower School / Primary School Principal for a K-12 bilingual school based in Chonqing. This position is available from the upcoming academic year in fall 2026.

About The Role
The Head of Lower School provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for the primary phase, ensuring excellent teaching and learning, strong safeguarding, and a warm, inclusive culture for pupils, families, and staff. Working closely with whole-school leadership, the post holder oversees curriculum alignment (EYFS, KS1 and KS2), assessment and data use, staff development, and effective operations that enable high pupil progress and wellbeing. The role partners with parents, supports pupils with additional needs, and ensures smooth transition into the next phase of schooling.

  • Set and communicate a clear vision for the Lower School that promotes high standards, pupil wellbeing, and character development
  • Lead curriculum design and alignment across EYFS, KS1, and KS2, including phonics, literacy, numeracy, science, and inquiry-based learning
  • Monitor teaching quality through coaching, lesson observation, appraisal, and targeted CPD; develop teachers and TAs
  • Oversee assessment, moderation, and data tracking to inform instruction and school improvement plans
  • Champion safeguarding and pupil welfare; ensure robust policies, training, and record keeping
  • Strengthen inclusion for EAL and SEND learners through early identification, intervention, and progress reviews
  • Build strong partnerships with parents through effective communication, workshops, and reporting
  • Manage staffing, timetables, cover, and resources; contribute to budget planning and efficient operations
  • Lead behaviour culture and positive routines; ensure consistent expectations and restorative practice
  • Coordinate co-curricular, enrichment, and community events; support marketing and admissions as needed
  • Ensure smooth transition points, including EYFS to KS1 and KS2 to the next phase

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or above; recognised teaching qualification; evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Successful leadership experience in primary education, for example as Head of Year, Deputy Head, or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of EYFS and the English National Curriculum for KS1 and KS2
  • Demonstrated impact on pupil progress through effective use of data, curriculum leadership, and teacher development
  • Secure safeguarding knowledge; skilled in positive behaviour management and whole-school routines
  • Experience supporting EAL and SEND learners; ability to lead inclusive provision and interventions
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills; collaborative, adaptable, and high integrity
