The Social Sciences portfolio, which includes over 400 journals across all social science disciplines, is seeking an Associate Publisher to lead our archaeology, heritage science and library science journals portfolio. This unique opportunity allows you to shape the strategic direction of a high-profile and competitive portfolio by driving content development, open access publishing, and brand building, while ensuring the global representation of our editorial community.

About The Role
The portfolio the Associate Publisher will oversee consists of 10-15 journals, mainly in archaeology, heritage science and library science. The Associate Publisher will ensure these journals reflect the needs of the research community and will work on expanding networks, partnerships, and publishing opportunities, especially from underrepresented regions. Success in this role requires maintaining an excellent network with Elsevier editors, authors, and societies.

This Associate Publisher position can be based in China at either our
Beijing, Shanghai or Shenzhen office.
The Social Sciences journals' team you will be joining is consists of 11 publishers – seven in the UK, two in China, one in the USA and one in the Netherlands.

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with journal editors to implement initiatives and develop journals to reflect the needs of the communities they serve
  • Staying up to date with market developments, to identify and map market needs and business opportunities
  • Combining market knowledge and data analysis, develop a portfolio strategy that will deliver on targets
  • Managing content growth organically and by (title) acquisition
  • Managing innovation of content formats and content extensions and channels
  • Working closely with team members and other publishing colleagues to help deliver on collaborative projects and goals.

Requirements

  • Have a Degree/PhD. A Social Sciences discipline is valued, but not essential
  • Excellent relationship management skills
  • Have relevant publishing experience or experience in a related role
  • Have excellent networking and communication skills, in English
  • Have the ability to adapt to change, handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Willing and able to travel within China and internationally
  • Willingness to attend the office in person at least once every two weeks.
