OVERVIEW: We are seeking a Director of CMF (Color, Material, Finish) to join our Shenzhen office and lead the CMF vision for Shark and Ninja. In this role, you will build SharkNinja's global materials lab, reshape the CMF development process, and drive both strategy and execution. You will enhance our color, material, and finish R&D capabilities to deliver breakthrough innovation and premium product experiences. By partnering with global design, product, engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams, you will create a world-class CMF ecosystem that elevates consumer experience and strengthens SharkNinja's competitive edge worldwide. Responsibilities:
Leadership & Vision
- Build and lead the Shenzhen CMF team, inspiring creativity, innovation, and accountability.
- Establish SharkNinja's global materials lab, advancing color, material, and finish R&D capabilities.
- Define and implement CMF strategies that drive innovation, differentiation, and premium execution across categories.
- Mentor and grow CMF talent, raising the bar for design quality and execution. Innovation & Execution
- Reshape CMF processes from concept to production, balancing strategic foresight with hands-on execution.
- Translate consumer insights, lifestyle trends, and emerging technologies into CMF innovation.
- Drive material, coating, and finish exploration to deliver world-class, differentiated product experiences.
- Oversee prototyping, sampling, and approvals to ensure consistency, manufacturability, and premium outcomes. Collaboration & Influence
- Partner with Global Industrial Design, Marketing, Product Development, and Engineering to integrate CMF into holistic product and brand experiences.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing and supplier partners in Asia to achieve high-quality execution on a scale.
- Develop strong vendor partnerships to drive innovation, scalability, and sustainability in CMF development.
- Represent SharkNinja's CMF vision across global teams, suppliers, and executive stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; Strong English communication required (verbal & written), Mandarin proficiency.
- 10+ years of professional experience in CMF, Industrial Design, Fashion, Materials, or related fields.
- 4+ years of leadership experience in managing and developing design or CMF teams.
- Bachelor's degree in CMF, Industrial Design, Materials Science, Fashion, or related discipline. Master's degree is a plus.
- Proven success in building CMF strategies and delivering high-quality execution for global consumer products.
- Strong knowledge of materials, coatings, plastics, metals, glass, textile, textures, and global manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with CMF standards and tools such as Pantone, NCS, SPI, YickSang, Mold-Tech, etc.
- Proficiency in design and visualization tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Keyshot, etc.).
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage multiple category projects from concept through completion in a fast-paced, global, and deadline-driven environment, with a hands-on leadership style and adaptability to change.
- Strong capability in QC inspection and tracking, ensuring CMF quality, consistency, and alignment from prototyping through mass production.
- Strong track record in talent development, cross-functional influence, and building ecosystems and grow design expertise that elevate design outcomes.
