What's the role?

Position Summary

This position bears direct responsibility for relevant financial and operational metrics. Its core function is to ensure the achievement of all agreed Key Performance Indicators—including financial results, quality, and compliance—through comprehensive Quality Management. The role is responsible for establishing and monitoring appropriate quality standards, systems, and structures to guarantee that all products leaving the sites comply with Zeiss Vision Care policies, procedures, specifications, regulatory requirements, and the quality expectations of the customer base.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of China quality policies, procedures, systems, and initiatives in accordance with global Zeiss directives, continuously improving systems and product quality levels, and being accountable for quality-related KPIs.
  • Provide quality coordination and strategic direction to local Quality Managers/functions, aligning with Vision Care strategy, priorities, initiatives, and the ZEISS Management System.
  • Establish and lead Quality group forums to drive the standardization of products and processes across manufacturing and sales sites by promoting the ongoing exchange of quality initiatives, issues, and ideas, and aligning practices, procedures, and systems.
  • Be responsible for supporting and maintaining ISO 13485 certifications across all sites.
  • Drive and coordinate effective Quick Response Quality Control processes for the prompt resolution and/or escalation of customer complaints, ensuring thorough investigation and complaint analysis, and defining feedback information flows. Coordinate and control QRQC implementation at all sites.
  • Support the Product Generation Process and Advanced Product Quality Planning methodology within China and ensure compliance with all licensing, regulatory, and marketing claim requirements.
  • Own the budgeting process for the quality teams.
  • Act as the primary interface for key National accounts and Wholesale customers, conducting site visits as required.
  • Implement best-demonstrated practices and cost-down programs throughout the network to achieve specified KPI and cost-reduction targets.
  • Support New Product Introduction and process optimization. Coordinate various product testing activities and reporting to ensure new products or process changes meet specifications and customer requirements.
  • Support regional Supplier Quality Management activities in alignment with global Supplier Quality Management requirements.

Experience And Education Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Engineering, Quality Management, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • Preferred certifications: Six Sigma Black Belt, APQP, or Project Management Professional (PMP).

Experience & Achievements

  • 15 or above years of quality management experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., medical devices, pharmaceuticals, consumer goods, precision manufacturing), including at least 8 years in a national or regional (e.g., APAC) quality leadership role.
  • Demonstrated success in:
  • Building or transforming regional quality systems with measurable improvement in key quality indicators.
  • Leading cross-functional teams in new product introduction or major process optimization within complex matrix organizations.
  • Managing quality-related budgets and resources with strong financial acumen, delivering cost and efficiency improvements.
  • Resolving complex quality issues and building strategic partnerships with key customers and global suppliers.

  • Change Leadership: Drive organizational transformation, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and inspire high-performing teams.
  • Execution & Problem-Solving: Master advanced problem-solving methodologies, lead root cause analysis of major deviations/complaints/audits and implement effective corrective/preventive actions.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate quality and compliance risks with structured approaches.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Communicate complex technical issues clearly in English and Chinese to technical and non-technical stakeholders; excel in cross-cultural collaboration.

Professional Knowledge & Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and practical experience with CN NMPA, US FDA, EU MDR/IVDR, and other relevant regulations.
  • Expertise in ISO 13485 and experience as a Certified Lead Auditor.
  • Proficiency in core quality tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC) and methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Strong data analysis skills, with the ability to leverage statistical software for trend analysis and decision support.
