The Chemistry Technician is responsible for leading internal and external testing and analysis with accurate results as well as reports, sample preparation, initiative in lab routine affairs, HSE and lab equipment routine maintenance for ensuring safety and good housekeeping practices during daily operations, and external calibration and all facets of testing from sample preparation to reporting of results.
Responsibilities
- Support the development and deployment technical managers by execute tests plan. Articulate and communicate testing issues to development or deployment technical managers and provide timely status update and work with on questions or concerns.
- Operate and maintain key pieces of test equipment for the R&D and Technical Service groups including: the PVT (Pressure Viscosity and Temperature) Instrument, miscibility, and ASHREA test. Must have good dexterity for these last two tests in manipulating and sealing glass tubes after proper training.
- Operate and maintain standard lubricant laboratory test equipment, including viscometers, pour point, flash point, total acid number (TAN), water, dielectric strength, density, color, etc.
- Operate and maintain analytic lab equipment, including: FTIR, GC/MS and ICP
- Conduct quality tests following work procedures and ASTM/GB methods. Reference appropriate resource documents in LFE training manual and IW (test methods)
- Enter and upload test data into Lubrizol internal software GBTRS/Rex. Understand and perform testing calculations; ability to identify and resolve incorrect calculations and process the calculations manually if necessary. Recognize data inconsistencies before uploading.
- Recognize validity of test data. Notify development or deployment technical managers regarding non-conformances and be able to identify root causes of inconsistent test data. Perform routine troubleshooting and repair on tests and equipment.
- Plot reference data on control charts. Understand control charting and when to investigate potential issues. Must be able to identify, troubleshoot, and work closely with development or deployment technical managers to resolve issues or problems. Appropriately elevate the situation to development technical managers and/or customer when necessary.
- Recognize priority conflicts of testing; prioritize and communicate test schedules to development or deployment technical managers. Run multiple tests at a time.
- Facilitate sample flow between work area and other areas in the department. Communicate issues to appropriate person.
- Follow HSES procedures of laboratory to operate in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining good housekeeping practices and 5S in the work area. Requires use of appropriate PPE, Personal Protective Equipment, to fulfill safety requirements.
- Actively get involved with contributions to safety, housekeeping, environmental and process improvement initiatives.
Skills And Competencies Requirements
- College above in Chemistry background required.
- At least 2 years of chemistry lab experience required.
- Lubricant lab testing or third-party chemical testing lab experience preferred.
- Initiative and responsible attitude.
- Strong safety sense, time management, analytical and organizational Skills
- Enjoy lab work and good habit in lab housekeeping.
- Able to carry 20 kg pail with lubricant.
- Language - Fluent in English both written and verbal.
- Physical - Blend lubricants with additives and ensure the final formulations are within their design specification.
