Primary Responsibilities

  • Accountability for sourcing of an assigned category of raw materials for the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Understanding of assigned categories: analyzing the market, preparing sourcing strategies, utilization of a formal RFP process with implementation and tracking of results.
  • Development and formal execution of global procurement strategies and best practices associated with bidding, negotiation, and supplier development.
  • Sourcing of assigned materials on a global basis and defining a global strategic approach together with the Global Category Leader team.
  • Identification, attaining commitment, and implementation of cost-out improvement opportunities to create structural and sustained advantages.
  • Development of "should cost" and "make versus buy" financial models which provide predictive analysis to support decision making.
  • Provide forward looking guidance on trends, threats, and opportunities throughout the complete feedstock and supply chain.
  • Development of contingency and risk mitigation plans.
  • Building positive relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Support of new supplier qualifications to expand the supply base.
  • Utilizing e-technologies (i.e,..e-RFP's, Internet searches, reverse auctions, etc.)
  • Ensuring compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety, and Responsible Care programs.

Qualifications

  • Greater than 8-years of experience in purchasing in the chemical market.
  • Experience globalizing contracts and pricing.
  • Capability to develop suppliers from low-cost countries/regions.
  • Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively in a geographically distributed organization.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Excellent organization capabilities and project management skills.
  • Data analysis skills - Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and their higher-level functions such as pivot tables, v-look, formulas, etc.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to identify, understand and provide prioritization of actions to all elements of the organization.
  • Ability to work in a very diverse and matrixed environment across a broad group of multi-functional stakeholders.
