ARD German Radio in Shanghai is looking for a seasoned and passionate News Assistant to support our correspondent in covering China for a German audience.

About Us
ARD is Germany's public broadcasting network, offering a wide range of programming across more than sixty TV and radio channels, as well as online and social media platforms. In China, ARD operates offices in Beijing and Shanghai with a total of four correspondents.

The Shanghai office, led by one correspondent, focuses on economic topics but also covers a wide range of societal and cultural developments in China. Geographically, it is responsible for Southern China, including Hong Kong and Macau. Our radio pieces are primarily published online at

Your Tasks
You will support to:

  • Monitor news and trends across Chinese media and social platforms
  • Verify sources, videos, and information
  • Prepare and organize interviews, assist during interviews, and translate when needed
  • Arrange and accompany reporting trips
  • Edit videos for social media using Adobe Premiere

Your Profile

  • Proven experience in journalism (as a reporter or news assistant)
  • Native Mandarin speaker with fluent English; German language skills are a plus
  • Strong understanding of current affairs in China and globally
  • Skilled in video storytelling and editing (Adobe Premiere)
  • Highly curious, self-organized, and proactive — especially in fast-paced news situations
  • Able to secure interview partners quickly during breaking news
