Basic Function
The Manager – Environmental – APAC Has Three Primary Roles
- Expert Support & Leadership
- Provide environmental leadership and strategy to all APAC businesses, consistent with Huntsman's corporate standards and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and corporate requirements.
- Drive continuous performance improvement by identifying and developing improvement opportunities.
- Identify and reduce environmental risks.
- Lead communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Environmental Data & Metrics
- Review reported environmental data and provide input on environmental metrics and projects supporting Huntsman's EHS targets and sustainability program.
- Strategic Support
- Advise APAC businesses on soil and groundwater assessments.
- Analyze data for trends, incorrect reporting, and unlikely patterns.
- Support environmental remediation, M&A due diligence, EHS auditing, and related activities.
The incumbent collaborates with the Corporate EHS Legal group for timely EHS-related disclosures and participates in the Corporate Legacy and Remediation Network. Additionally, the incumbent serves as a regional leader for environmental excellence, mentoring site-based EHS managers and strengthening environmental capability across APAC.
Statistics / Dimensions
The Incumbent Is Responsible And Accountable For
- Ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of publicly disclosed EHS (APAC region) information.
- Conducting due diligence for acquisition, divestment, and merger deals (potentially $100 million to $1 billion).
- Providing strategic and expert environmental consultancy for all Huntsman Corporation divisions globally.
- Ensuring compliance with Huntsman standards and local regulatory requirements.
- Sharing best practices, reporting metrics, and identifying areas for continuous improvement.
Relationships
- Reports directly to the Global Environmental Senior Manager, with a strong functional link to the APAC Regional EHS Director.
- Responsible for selecting and managing external environmental service providers (consultants and contractors) for technical studies and regulatory requirements.
- Works closely with global EHS personnel, Corporate EHS Governance and Shared Services, Division Leadership, and the EHS Global Leadership Group.
- Attends leadership meetings (e.g., Global EHS Leadership Group, APAC Regional EHS Leadership Team, Legacy/Remediation Network) as needed.
- Maintains a wide network of internal and external contacts, including subject matter experts, regulators, consultants, suppliers, and business contacts.
Know-How
- Minimum: Bachelor's degree in EHS, environmental science, engineering, or chemistry (strong data/statistical analysis skills required).
- Preferred: Master's or postgraduate qualifications in related fields.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in EHS, operations management, engineering, or project management.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations (especially in China and APAC), operational practices, and greenhouse gas accounting.
- Exceptional interpersonal and influencing skills, with experience working with senior management.

- Strategic objectives set by the Global Environmental Senior Manager; tactical objectives by the APAC Regional EHS Director.
- Must handle ambiguity to determine specific activities and programs to achieve objectives.
Accountability
- Protect the company's financial well-being by identifying and communicating potential EHS risks, liabilities, and sustainability issues for all APAC operations.
- Responsible for due diligence in mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, third-party claims, and emerging regulatory initiatives.
- Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of publicly disclosed EHS and sustainability information.
- Shared responsibility for EHS compliance and supporting line management.
- Implement transformational change in environmental matters within APAC, in line with Huntsman's direction.
- Foster a culture of innovation and excellence in environmental management.
- Provide expert advice on environmental matters as a member of the Global Environmental Team.
- Manage consultants/contractors for soil and groundwater monitoring/remediation, or support site resources in these activities.
