ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead and mentor a mechanical engineering team of around 25 mixed level engineers effectively working for new product development from concept to production.
- Provide in-project key technical decisions on mechanical engineering direction, guidance to the team enabling right and effective engineering work carried out.
- Provide critical inputs of tooling strategies, supplier selection, material selection in general guidelines, and/or project specific where needed.
- Accountable for team's project deliverables on time, on quality and on cost.
- Identify technical and/or technology advancement opportunities from in-flight projects to initiate advanced development work from the Technical Block team, drive product evolution cadence with meaningful innovation inputs.
- Foster the team's competence to the industrial leading standard in line with ever changing technology dynamics around wider Mechanical domain.
- Continuously review and drive mechanical engineering standardization, part commonality, cost effectiveness to the next level.
- Continuously review and improve working process of the team, with x-functional team internally, and with external development partners.
- Lead the team in supporting products' continuous improvement, analysis of quality reports, and any other post launch engineering ECNs where needed.
- Develop strategies for continuously driving Design-for-Quality, Design-for-Cost, Design-for-Manufacturability (incl. Design-for-Automation), and Design for Sustainability.
- Shape the team collaborative and innovative work environment, enable a progressive & inclusive culture.
EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE
ESSENTIAL
Experience Required
- 12+ years of experience in R&D mechanical engineering area of large-scale consumer electronic products.
- 5+ years' experience of hands-on design (3D CAD creation, tolerance analysis, 2D sketch creation) work; 5+ years' experience of leading a R&D mechanical engineering team for large-scale consumer electronic products.
- Experience in engineering area of small dimension, larger scale (hundreds of thousand pcs per month) consumer electronics products is a critical plus.
- Experience in engineering area of portable devices is valuable plus; Hands-on experience of tooling is valuable plus.
- Experience in design for automation is a plus.
Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required
- Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials mechanics, and tooling, manufacturing processes for high volume production. High level understanding of product development quality concepts.
- Master of tolerance analysis, statistical engineering, material properties and selection in consumer electronics domain.
- Strong developer of people, ability to coach and manage the personal development of direct reports in the team
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
- Thinking strategically, driving results and be able to challenge the status quo.
- Great collaboration skills working with wider x-functional teams e.g. Quality, Procurement, Operation etc.
- Speaking English in technical discussion and presentation level.
Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required
- Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Certificate of Design-for-6 Sigma is a critical plus.
- Certificate of PMP (Project Management Professional) is a plus.
