Position Summary
Coordinate with suppliers, mold builders, and project teams to ensure that injection molds and associated equipment are delivered on time, within budget, and built to Meta Tool Technologies standards. Lead improvements in mold design, tooling performance, and manufacturing processes for plastic injection molding operations.
Essential Job Functions
General Responsibilities
- Develop supply base to meet quality, delivery, and cost expectations.
- Ensure injection molds are designed, built, and maintained to meet Meta Tool
- Technologies standards and customer specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mold and injection molding process issues.
- Lead efforts in mold trials, validations, and capability studies.
- Emphasize safety in mold and process design and execution.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, IATF 16949, and internal standards.
- Collect and analyze process and mold data to drive continuous improvement.
- Accurately document mold designs, tool trials, and costs.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to improve mold performance and reliability.
- Provide direction and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
- Participate in design for manufacturability (DFM) and mold flow analysis discussions.
- Recognize and implement new technologies and techniques in plastic injection molding.
Functional Focus Areas
Launch & Manufacturing Support
- Support production by addressing injection mold and process issues.
- Lead continuous improvement of molding processes to improve cycle time, quality, and uptime.
- Support on-call manufacturing needs related to molding operations.
- Drive mold and process maturation plans aligned with launch timelines.
- Support tool tryouts and mold validations during pre-production stages.
- Work with cross-functional teams on PFMEA development and risk mitigation.
New Business Pursuit
- Participate in mold feasibility studies, quoting, and design reviews (PPTAR).
- Define mold build strategy and timelines aligned with new business wins.
- Provide accurate and competitive tooling quotes for injection molds.
- Lead technical discussions with customers and vendors to align on tooling requirements.
Process Advancement
- Lead or participate in initiatives to implement new molding technologies.
- Develop and implement best practices in injection mold design and processing.
- Evaluate and introduce automation, hot runner systems, conformal cooling, or alternate materials to enhance part quality and reduce cost.
- Identify industry trends and apply learnings to Meta Tool Technologies' molding strategy.
