About Role
The Head of Positive Behaviour G6-8 Leads works in tandem with the Head of Positive Behaviour G9-12 and Head of Student Affairs and sits on the SSLT. This role reports to the Deputy Head Pastoral. The purpose of this role is to provide outstanding pastoral care for all students, ensuring that students are fully supported, their needs are met and that they succeed academically.
The Positive Behaviour Lead needs to remain flexible and adaptable to ensure effective leadership of the year group. With the Head of Student Affairs, the Head of Positive Behaviour will lead a dynamic team of G6-8 Tutors ensuring that the team is supported in ensuring the holistic Wellbeing of all students in the school. Therefore, the list of responsibilities below is not exhaustive.
Our School
Dehong Shanghai International Chinese School is the first Dehong school in China, located in Minhang District. It opened in September 2017 and now has over 1,000 students across its Elementary and Secondary Schools.
In 2023, the school expanded into its newly built Phase II campus, featuring first-class facilities. These include collaborative learning areas as well as dedicated spaces for the performing arts, sports, STEAM, and innovation. The expansion enables Dehong Shanghai to grow into a school for 1,500 students, with boarding capacity for more than 900 students on campus.
Job Responsibilities
Pastoral Responsibilities
- Be responsible for promoting the School culture and embedding the Dehong Core Values within the community. Leading by example in their day to day practice.
- Be responsible for the Wellbeing and Positive Behaviour of all pupils across the secondary school.
- To have a genuine interest in the students across the middle school and develop positive relationships with them in order to best support their individual needs.
- Work with the Head of Student Affairs to lead the Grade Leader and Tutors teams.
- Work with the Head of Student Affairs and the Counsellor to develop the 'keeping myself safe' and circle solutions programme and wider wellbeing programmes.
- Work with the CNC coordinator to ensure that a developed and structured programme exists to support the MS students in preparation for their Zhongkao exams.
- Work with the Head of Secondary to ensure that students are well supported in their HS G9 admissions process.
- Lead on the ES G5 to G6 transition programme
- To ensure that the Safe at Schools programme is of a high quality and supports the wellbeing, development and academic success of the students in the Secondary School
- To liaise with the Group Leaders to ensure that all G6-8 students academic needs are being met.
- To ensure high standards of behaviour in line with the schools Positive Behaviour for Learning policy.
- To be proactive in identifying behaviour concerns and implement effective strategies to address the identifed concerns and raise standards of behaviour in the designated section.
- To ensure that all policies and procedures relating to the school's Positive Behaviour for Learning/Safe at Schools policy are adhered to and applied consistently across the designated section.
- To maintain regular contact with parents, in conjunction with Grade leaders and Tutors, updating them as necessary.
- To meet with parents, where appropriate, to ensure students in the designated sections needs are met and concerns are dealt with effectively.
- To create and implement systems where appropriate to ensure we are effective in providing students with the best support for their individual needs.
- To attend and lead Group leader and BZR meetings, with the DH, and forums in line with the expectations of the position.
- To keep up-to-date with current developments concerning pastoral care of students in order to ensure best practice and high quality pastoral provision.
- To contribute to the whole school professional development and programme as appropriate and to identify external PL opportunities for members of your team and coordinate that training accordingly.
- To contribute to the schools Qidi program in line with the expectations of the role.
- To have a teaching commitment commensurate with the role.
- With the Head of Student Affairs be responsible for successfully managing the pastoral bottom-up budget for the Secondary school.

- Abide by the school Safe at Schools policy and keep abreast of any changes

- Participate (including preparing students/activities) in the wider life of the school, such as assemblies, celebrations, extra-curricular events and so on
- Collaborate with colleagues across Dehong schools and Dulwich College International to share best practices around the network and participate in group-wide events as appropriate
- Support service learning and sustainability practices, events and programmes
- Teach lessons as agreed with the Head of Secondary (approximately 12 periods per week)
