Key Responsibilities
1. Trade Compliance & Customs Management:
- Develop, implement, and oversee the company's global trade compliance program.
- Ensure full adherence to all import/export regulations (FDA, USDA, CBP, CFIA, etc.), including HTSUS classification, valuation, and country of origin determination.
- Manage customs broker relationships and performance, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all filings.
- Lead internal audits and manage customs inquiries, protests, and prior disclosure processes.
- Stay current on changing international trade laws and assess the impact on company operations.
2. Transportation & Logistics Leadership:
- Develop and execute transportation strategies that optimize cost, service, and reliability.
- Manage a multi-modal logistics network (TL, LTL, intermodal, air, ocean) for both domestic and international shipments.
- Lead carrier selection, contract negotiations, and performance management (KPIs) for a portfolio of transportation providers.
- Drive continuous improvement in routing, load optimization, and mode selection.
3. Cold Chain Integrity & Management:
- Serve as the company subject matter expert on cold chain logistics.
- Establish and enforce strict protocols for temperature monitoring, trailer/container pre-cooling, and load integrity.
- Oversee the management of refrigerated assets and ensure carrier compliance with our temperature requirements.
- Investigate and resolve any temperature excursions, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
4. On-Time Delivery & Operational Excellence:
- Own the On-Time-In-Full (OTIF) and On-Time Delivery (OTD) metrics for inbound and outbound shipments.
- Implement robust tracking, tracing, and proactive exception management processes.
- Analyze performance data to identify root causes of delays and develop strategies for improvement.
- Collaborate closely with Planning, Procurement, Warehousing, and Customer Service to ensure a seamless, reliable supply chain.
5. Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of logistics and compliance professionals.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Manage the departmental budget, providing forecasts and reporting on performance against financial targets.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in transportation, logistics, and international trade compliance.
- A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within the
food, beverage, or perishable goods industry
. - Demonstrable, hands-on experience with cold chain logistics
and a deep understanding of the challenges associated with temperature-sensitive products. - Expert knowledge of U.S. customs regulations (19 CFR) and experience with other North American trade programs (e.g., USMCA).
- Proven track record of negotiating freight contracts and managing a multi-million dollar transportation budget.
- Strong analytical skills with experience using TMS, ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and MS Office Suite.
