Job Description
We're expanding our OEM customer support team in China and seek an energetic Optical Engineer to work in a customer-focused, fast-paced environment, working cross-functionally with Electrical, Optical and Software, Quality and Product Line teams. The candidate should have technical skills to drive root cause, corrective actions and timely RMA dispositions and repairs associated with Lumentum's ultrafast laser products.

In this position you will take on challenges in areas that include:

  • The ability to unpack and install / uninstall and operate Lumentum ultrafast lasers and related equipment in the Lumentum laboratory
  • Understanding, verifying, testing, debugging and trouble-shooting optical modules and systems for these lasers
  • Performing and documenting failure analysis and the implementation of corrective actions (A3, 8D, FMEA)
  • Performing specific repairs by removing and replacing of laser optical sub-assemblies according to documented work instructions
  • Performing calibrations, programming and final lasers test per documented work instructions
  • Working within cross-functional international teams including but not limited to electrical, optical, process / manufacturing, firmware, field applications and quality engineering teams, sales and product line management
  • Be responsible for maintaining all company assets in good working order
  • Adhering to company standard operating procedures that meet/exceed standard of care
  • Completing documented maintenance checks and services on all assigned equipment
  • Successfully completing all preventative maintenance paperwork during and at the end of preventative maintenance
  • Making data-driven decisions
  • Performing other duties as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Scientific- or Engineering degree (BS and >2 years / MS and 0-2 years of relevant work-experience) with an emphasis on Electrical Engineering or Lasers, Photonics, Optics, Physics, Material Sciences
  • Experience with ultrashort-pulsed laser systems and applications, test and measurement equipment
  • Strong expertise with free-space optics design and use (free-standing optics and mechanics)
  • Good problem-solving skills and a quick grasp
  • Able to analyze data and make data-driven decisions
  • Structured and systematic working approach
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minor supervision
  • Customer and team-work orientation with strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Fluency in Mandarin (oral and written)
  • Fluency in English for reading & written and Basic for oral
  • Able to occasionally work irregular hours as required
  • Able to travel to other sites or customer sites globally
