Legal Counsel - Data & Privacy
to join its China legal team to support the ongoing enhancement of its data protection and privacy framework.
Your New Role
As Privacy Counsel, you will play a key role in implementing and maintaining the company's privacy and data protection compliance program in China. You will work closely with the global privacy team and business functions to ensure alignment with both local and international data protection standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and enhance privacy and data protection compliance programs across the China business.
- Review and advise on data collection, processing, storage, transfer, and vendor management activities.
- Draft, review, and negotiate data protection agreements and privacy terms.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs), data mapping, and risk assessments.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments in China and globally, providing compliance guidance to internal stakeholders.
- Deliver privacy training and awareness initiatives across the organisation.
- Handle data subject requests and support incident response or regulatory inquiries.
- Support internal audit preparation and global privacy compliance initiatives.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- PRC-qualified lawyer with around
5-8 years of experience
; - Minimum
2–3 years of solid experience
in privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity compliance; - Strong understanding of China's data protection and privacy legal framework;
- Experience gained from international law firms or multinational companies preferred;
- Excellent analytical, drafting, and advisory skills with business-oriented thinking;
- Strong communication skills in both English and Mandarin;
- Detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
