This position aims to develop the Global Product Strategy for PMC's Fouling Control product range (Antifoulings, Fouling Release coatings and corresponding Tiecoats). Global product managers own their respective product and new product development (NPD) portfolios to manage product life cycles, optimize range complexity and support growth in priority segments. They are also indirectly accountable for meeting New Product Sales (NPS) targets and must work proactively across functions to ensure NPD projects are optimally managed, resourced and justified.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop Global Product Strategy in alignment with the Global Business Platform.
- Orchestrate execution of global product line strategies within regions, by providing governance and oversight to regional product managers
- Critical interface between S&T (Science and Technology) and segment & commercial teams to drive alignment and set priorities
- Support Sales organization during key customer discussions to assess needs from industry thought leaders and share critical product characteristics
- Own the global NPD portfolio by product category - drive cross-functional decisions for prioritization and resource commitment
- Responsible to update all supporting documentation for products in respective categories. Implement Management of Change – Where possible, coordinate and delegate related tasks to I to regional supporting roles (for instance for updates and maintenance of product data sheets, certification etc.)
- Develop and own product life cycle optimization (product launch to elimination) and coordinate with commercial, supply and manufacturing.
- Support with new Product launches. The segment leads the new product launches with clear positioning, sales pack and promotion while product manager develops compelling value proposition for the product and product line
- Compile global technical assessment of competitive products to identify points of differentiation
- Make cross-functional connections and help drive global trade-offs to facilitate agility in meeting customer needs and delivering business results; empower regional teams as appropriate
- Final decision rights around system design with technical service
- Support business case for capital and resource investments within technology segment
- Represent PPG at industry bodies (like CEPE and IPPIC) and provide presentations at seminars and conferences to explain PPG Fouling Control products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering, chemistry, business, or related degree
- At least 5 years of experience in product development, strategic marketing or product management
- Demonstrates creative and critical thinking skills
- Process oriented and willingness to develop processes where needed
- Proficiency in gathering and analyzing market intelligence; ability to assemble and organize multiple sources of intelligence into a clear market assessment
- Strong business and technical acumen demonstrating ability to define, develop and execute new opportunities
- Ability to translate/quantify data and other information and make reliable decisions on viable business prospect identification
- Ability to directly and effectively engage external customers at all levels
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to collaborate and influence without authority, in a matrixed environment (cross-functional, cross-regional, and cross-SBU)
- Experience and exposure to global business dynamics and the ability to drive implementation of required activities across all regions
- Professional and positive approach, self-motivated, team player, dynamic, creative and ability to work on own initiative
- Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to clearly present recommendations and ideas to summarize complex issues
- Strong professionalism and work ethic
- Organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
