Description
The role of Managing Director at Universal Beijing Resort is to oversee the operation of the hotel branch as part of the Universal Beijing Resort. The role is responsible for and accountable for the hotel's operations, service and brand standards, fire, life and safety in adherence to policies and procedures, all legal and compliance aspects of the business and owner relations. The MD also oversees the management of all hotels integrated into the Universal Beijing Resort, working closely with the theme park management team.
Key Responsibilities
Performance
- Ensures profitability of hotels and branch
- Monitor revenue data and forecasting
- Establishes an effective working relationship with the owners JV, park management and park business development team at all times considering their investments as a first priority.
- Along with the Excom team other Directors, support the theme park business development team in the preparation of the annual operating budgets and planning cycles.
- Drives non-financial performance of the Hotel with reference to competitor activity and economic trends.
- Builds organizational capability to ensure to support business targets set.
- Assesses, evaluates and ensures that long-term and short-term goals of the hotel are met.
- Provokes, initiates and implements strategic changes for improvements in the hotel.
- Responsibility to deliver total revenues expected from the shareholders
Operation
- Ensures knowledge of government protocol and local knowledge.
- Generates profit through the right cost management, product and service levels, physical appearance of the hotel.
- Communicates and develops the strategy and the target of the hotel.
- Ensures that the hotel operates under corporate and standards defined.
- Is present at all VIP events with personal assistance to Hotel' s VIP or loyal guests.
- Ensure close coordination with park operations to ensure a seamless and integrated guest experience.
Team management
- Delegates to the Excom Team, Cluster Director of Finance and Human Resources to ensure that the highest standards of service are met at all times.
- Ensures through the central Human Resources department that the implementation of development programs and training is carried out to ensure long term retention of the employees.
- Ensures effective staff management on and off season to optimise profitability and capitalise on opportunity to enhance staff training through cross exposure and task force (during off season periods) within other Kempinski properties.
Fundamentals
- Rolling out the strategic vision at each Department level as part of a comprehensive Hotel strategic plan in the context of the Universal Beijing Resort vision and plan.
- Work within all pre-set budgetary limits.
- Comply with all Company policies and operating standards.
- Follow the vision of an integrated resort and close cooperation with the theme park.

The Hotel Management Branch is the centralized hotel operator for the on-site hotels fully integrated in the larger Universal Beijing Resort theme-park destination. In phase I it comprises of two hotels, The Universal Studios Grand hotel with 800 rooms and NUO Resort Hotel with 400 rooms. With a targeted management of all hotels to be operated by the Hotel Management Branch within upcoming resort expansion.
HB is operating under the guidance of KEY International Co. Ltd. the a joint venture between the Beijing Tourism Group, one of China's largest tourism companies and Kempinski, Europe's oldest luxury hotel brand. Who manages a portfolio of almost 30 distinguished hotels across China under the brand names of Kempinski, NUO and Bristoria.
